2022 Student Caregiver Scholarship

At Nelson Elder Care Law we have a great appreciation for those who put others first and care for those who are unable to functionally care for themselves, and as the population of elderly adults continues to rise, the responsibility and role of a caregiver falls onto younger adults. As elder care law attorneys, we understand the demanding lifestyle a student caregiver faces trying to balance caring for others while maintaining their studies. That is why we are proud to sponsor our Student Caregiver Scholarship for the 2022 school year!

The purpose of the $1,000 Student Caregiver Scholarship is to award one compassionate student who spends their time helping elderly adults. This scholarship is open to those who volunteer with seniors either at a long-term care facility or nursing home, those who take care of an elderly family member, or those who help the elderly in another way. We want to hear why you chose to help and care for the elderly, and how volunteering has shaped you.

Scholarship Eligibility:

To be considered eligible for the Student Caregiver Scholarship students must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program within the United States. High school seniors who will be enrolled in college before the application deadline of September 30, 2022 are also encouraged to apply. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on 4.0 scale, and applications must be submitted on or by the deadline of September 30th.

Scholarship Requirements:

A complete scholarship application must include:

  • A current academic transcript, either official or unofficial. High school seniors must additionally submit proof of acceptance into college or university
  • An updated resume detailing academic, professional, and/or community service experiences
  • A 750-word essay describing if you volunteer at a long-term care facility, take care of an elderly family member, or volunteer with seniors? Share with us why you have chosen to help the elderly and how volunteering has shaped you.

I heard Cindy’s presentation at a Senior Luncheon at my church, and was very impressed. She helped my daughter and me understand many aspects of elder law. Josh has also been very helpful in my planning to enter an independent living situation . I have told many friends about them.

Cindy and the Nelson Elder Care Law team are trustworthy and helpful. They are the experts in elder care law. At Leaf Cremation, we entrust our families to the care of the Nelson team when their services are needed.

Josh Nelson, and his staff, have been amazingly helpful to our family. The ins and outs of nursing homes, the rules and regulations that govern Medicare and Medicaid are daunting and the folks at Nelson Elder Care Law have been informative, responsive, and above all, empathetic. I cannot emphasize enough how their service has taken a weight off of our shoulders especially during a world pandemic that has targeted nursing homes across our country. I highly recommend retaining Josh and his firm!

- Marcia
