Little to Fight Over in Aaron Hernandez’s Estate, Elder Law Attorney, Woodstock, GA

The battle over the estate of former NFL player Aaron Hernandez was expected to go on for a long time, but it turns out there is not much for anyone to fight over.

When Aaron Hernandez committed suicide that was the end of the criminal cases filed against him. However, the battle over his estate had just begun.

He left behind a four-year-old daughter, whose mother would like her to receive something. However, the families of his victims also want to receive a share of the estate to compensate them for their losses.

What was not initially known, was how much money Hernandez had left after all of his legal troubles.

That has now been determined to be essentially nothing, according to the New York Daily News in “Aaron Hernandez’s estate is worth nothing: court records.”

Hernandez’s girlfriend, the mother of his child, filed papers with the probate court overseeing the case. These papers document that Hernandez passed away with virtually no money or valuable personal property to speak of.

The only thing left is his home. The court granted the girlfriend permission to sell the home to an undisclosed interested buyer for $1.3 million. The mother of one of Hernandez’s victims has stated that she wants a portion of proceeds from the sale.

This is a case that is tragic all around.

Both Hernandez’s young daughter and the families of his victims deserve a part of the estate, but there is not enough to go around for everyone to get everything they deserve.

“On the threshold of retirement, we finally decided to quit thinking we could self-prepare the requisite documents. We had previously had only a very simple will. We needed the necessary legal (including updated will) & health care docs but didn’t want to deal with the time & complication of legalese. Cindy made the process relatively painless. She took the time to explain and answer questions without trying to upsell services. We were done in 2 meetings plus the reading of emailed drafts. In addition to preparing the documents, Nelson Eldercare will be there when our adult children need advice on executing the plans we’ve put in place. So glad it’s behind us and would recommend Cindy and her helpful staff.”
