Green Cremations

Some people today are more concerned about their environmental footprint than ever before. They are even willing to pay more for cars that are cleaner, even if those cars go slower than others.

People will go out of their way to recycle their garbage and use green products. However, people who want an environmentally friendly final resting place do not have many options.

The best option for most people is to get a casket that is easily biodegradable, but not all funeral homes offer them.

California has recently passed a law that will give its residents another option, as Fox News reports in “California looks to ‘green-ify’ death after Brown signs water cremation bill.”

Traditional cremation requires a hot fire that produces carbon emissions and uses fossil fuel.

A new cremation method uses an alkaline solution heated to 300 degrees that liquefies human remains. Instead of producing ashes, the remains are a brown liquid substance that resembles maple syrup. The method does not use fossil fuels and does not emit carbon.

California is the 15th state to allow this form of water-cremation. If it becomes popular there, it may move to other states, including yours, before too long.

Therefore, if you would like to have an environmentally friendly end to your life, then you might soon have another option available.

“On the threshold of retirement, we finally decided to quit thinking we could self-prepare the requisite documents. We had previously had only a very simple will. We needed the necessary legal (including updated will) & health care docs but didn’t want to deal with the time & complication of legalese. Cindy made the process relatively painless. She took the time to explain and answer questions without trying to upsell services. We were done in 2 meetings plus the reading of emailed drafts. In addition to preparing the documents, Nelson Eldercare will be there when our adult children need advice on executing the plans we’ve put in place. So glad it’s behind us and would recommend Cindy and her helpful staff.”
